Belfast-headquartered tech firm Kainos has been named ‘Vendor of the Year’ at the prestigious UK IT Industry Awards, fending off stiff competition from other global companies.

The award reinforces the company’s reputation as a world-leading provider of digital services and platforms; offering professional, agile and creative IT services, consulting and software.

The coveted ‘Vendor of the Year’ Award was given to Kainos in recognition of outstanding performance in terms of market penetration, revenue growth, workplace diversity, customer feedback and crucially, the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and investment in talent development.

CEO of Kainos, Brendan Mooney said: “Vendor of the Year is a fantastic accolade for the company, particularly when you consider our competition in the category and the breadth of the criteria.

“At Kainos our motivation is to enable outstanding people to change the way the world lives and works and one great example of that is our work with government departments and agencies. We’re very proud to be part of the public sector’s digital transformation, making its services easier to access and removing barriers to use.

“We foster a culture of learning and development. Internally that means dedicating over £1m each year to training; externally our Tech Outreach programme is helping to close the digital skills gap, providing inspiration and education to 4,000 young people so that they are equipped for the careers of the future,” he said.

The company, which is due to report on its latest results on 27 November 2017, has recorded eight consecutive years of growth in revenue, profit and staff numbers.

In October 2017 Kainos, who now employ over 1,000 people in 10 offices, opened a new base in Copenhagen as part of ongoing international expansion plans and to meet growing demand in Europe.

“Overall it has been a fantastic year for us and we will continue to innovate in all sectors, investing in new products and services to ensure that we remain a preferred supplier to leading organisations across the globe,” Brendan finished.

BCS & Computing UK IT Industry Awards are a platform for the entire profession to celebrate best practice, innovation and excellence.

Paul Fletcher, Group Chief Executive Officer of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT said: “Congratulations to all the winners and those who were highly commended in the UK IT Industry 2017 Awards.

“They perfectly demonstrate how the UK can and does make the most of its talent, recognising the highest levels of excellence across today’s IT sector. The standard of applications we received this year was outstanding, showcasing some of the brightest and best in our industry. The winners stood out as exceptional and inspiring, and should be very proud of their success.”

Kainos was also shortlisted in the ‘Best Place to Work in IT’, ‘IT Apprentice of the Year’ and ‘Young IT Professional of the Year’ categories.

The ‘Vendor of the Year’ trophy rounds off a successful awards season for Kainos, who were also placed on the Sunday Times Top 100 ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list for the fifth consecutive year and saw Gemma Crothers from Kainos crowned as ‘Woman of the Year’ at the IT Excellence Awards.
