Close Brothers Motor Finance urges dealers to be prepared for driving licence changes

01 June 2015 by Rachel McFarlane

With the paper counterpart driving license set to be withdrawn on Monday 8th June, leading motor finance provider, Close Brothers Motor Finance is urging dealers to plan ahead for the upcoming changes.

The transition, which is part of the DVLA’s Transformation Programme, will see the traditional paper counterpart replaced with two new online services - ‘Share Driving License’ and ‘Access to Driver Data Service’ (ADD) - that will enable drivers to share their driving license details with third parties electronically.

Share Driving License will allow drivers to generate a PDF containing a one-time access code so their information can be shared, whilst the ADD service will offer real-time access to driving license data.

CEO of Close Brothers Motor Finance, James Broadhead, said: “It’s understandable that some dealers may be feeling unsure about the removal of the paper counterpart driving license.

“Of the dealers we’ve talked to, many are concerned that online checks will create additional administration, whilst others are worried that the new requirements will slow down the sales process as not all customers will have the information they need for the checks to hand, such as their national insurance number.”

James is keen to point out that Close Brothers Motor Finance is on hand to help. “Our eclick system will help to reduce stress for our dealer partners when it comes to finance deals, as customers that pass the check won’t be affected.

“We’ve invested significantly in our eclick system, further improving the security and fraud prevention aspects, so dealers can be assured that they are fully compliant.

“Dealers still need to be aware of the new systems and should take the time to ensure that all members of their team are up-to-speed on the changes in order to minimise any disruption when it comes to managing the license checking process for test drives and courtesy cars.

“Our sales team will be there to support our dealer partners as they familiarise themselves with the new systems.”
