Mr Tayto takes his butties to the skies

Fans of the Tayto crisp sandwich are in seventh heaven this summer as they jet off to sunnier climes with one of their best loved childhood staples on board…the humble cheese and onion crisp butty.

The recent addition to Aer Lingus’ bia on board menu is proving to be a big hit with passengers, young and old. The new summer bia menu launched last month and includes the new Tayto crisp sandwich snack option, which is available on their Belfast to London and European flights, including Palma, Malaga and Faro.

While Aer Lingus cabin crew report strong demand for the crisp sandwich on board, it has been particularly popular on Spanish routes including Malaga and Majorca where traditionally a lot of young families take their summer holiday. Weekend flights to London are recording a significant uptake of the Tayto crisp sandwich as well, indicating that it appeals to guests in their 20s, 30s and beyond.

Andrea Hunter, Business Development Manager at Aer Lingus NI commented; “Our passengers tell us they are delighted that we have taken the iconic Tayto cheese and onion crisp sarnie to the skies.

“Our decision to include it in our bia menu came off the back of the overwhelming success of the Simply Crispy pop-up cafe in Belfast and the subsequent outpouring of affection and reminiscence that resulted.

“We can all remember the delight of crunching through a crisp sandwich when we were kids or when we were uni students. It rekindles childhood memories and embodies a taste of home.”

Marketing Director for Tayto, Elly Hunter said; “We are delighted that our famous Cheese & Onion crisps are now available to Aer Lingus passengers on the Belfast routes and the crisp sandwich is a perfect way to enjoy the taste of home high in the sky. I am sure that sales will soar!”

Aer Lingus’ bia on board menu offers guests an extensive selection of snack options and drinks. Many of the fresh sandwiches and snacks have been created in collaboration with Irish TV chef Clodagh McKenna, containing the best ingredients sourced from all over our foodie island.

The Tayto crisp sandwich is available as part of the bia menu for £3 on short haul flights, including European destinations.
